YD’s Voice

Youth ministry is a challenging ministry. Nowadays getting youths to attend a regular Sunday worship service itself is a challenge. Today many youths are challenged to follow the fast moving worldly lifestyle. The world appears to be much more attractive, fun and interesting than our church activities. In olden times, the church was the only happening place. There were no discos, pubs, theaters, food-stalls, cyber cafés or shopping malls for them to hang around.
But don’t rush to give up hope! I strongly believe our prayers and God’s love will win them back. What are our youths looking for? Youths at present need not only friends who are willing to listen but role models and leaders who can challenge them to live a purposeful life and disciple them to live a godly life. It’s not the nice banquet looking church or concert-like worshiping church.
If our churches could have, one dedicated, charismatic, “hero”, who is able to be a friend of youths, willing to spend time at the “Teh tarik shop”, go for bowling, movie etc. I think we have won half the battle.
We need to rebuild relationships with our youths. It is not just having some programs every Sunday.
Soli Deo Gloria,
Rev. Jonathan Jesudas
