For the bible says, “Give thanks to the LORD, call on his name; make known among the nations what he has done.”And to this I say Amen!

Friends of God, I am one of those who are blessed to be given this golden opportunity to testify the amazing works of the Lord and the result of His might hands in my precious life. I hope all who read will be blessed and greatly encouraged.

As a very little girl, many years ago, I always dreamt of sitting on a plane, going to a land far far away, playing with lots of snow and have a white christmas. Along the way I realised that my only way to a foreign land is through education. And so yes, I strived for academic excellence all the years of my life. I spent the hours reading and earning just to get the best grades. As I grew up, I began to realise the financial constraints of my family. I knew that my parents would not be able to send me overseas to study. So my only way out was a scholarship. We all know how competitive scholarships are. There are so many smart and deserving students with so few scholarships available. So I prayed really hard to receive a full scholarship to pursue an undergraduate degree in the UK. I knew I needed to get as many A’s as possible to secure a scholarship and to increase my chances, I took 16 subjects for my SPM. I was strongly discouraged by my teachers to take 16 subjects. The nights before the final SPM examination, I told my parents I could not do it. I wanted to drop some subjects. I planned not to sit for some of my papers. My parents knew how hard I worked and they were very worried about the stress I was facing. They were understanding and they told me that I should just do my best and leave the rest to God. By time I reached the last paper, I was on the verge of break down, I was drained out. But God saw me through, and I managed to sit and complete all my 16 papers.

When my results came out, I did not manage to get 16A’s. I got 11A’s only. My teachers saw me on the day of the SPM results and they told me once again that I should not have taken 16 subjects. But my parents were very supportive of my results and they told me to give thanks in everything. My whole family was in a major dilemma of what is the next step for me. I kept applying for scholarship after scholarship, and all I got was automatic rejections because I did not have enough A1′s and I did not get A’s in certain subjects. Finally, I was accepted for a selection round for this particular scholarship. I went through many elimination rounds, and out of 3000 applications, I was one of the 10 students who got a full scholarship to do my A Levels in Malaysia and then to do a degree in the UK. Many people were shocked on how I could get a scholarship with 11A’s when I was competing with students who got 15A1′s. But we all know what a mighty God we have and when God is on our side, who can come against us?

Dear friends, I want to encourage you to never give up. If I would have given up and not sat for the extra papers, I would not have got the 11A’s. All the A’s I got were from the extra subjects I took. Do not give up when you receive letters of rejection. Our God is not a God of confusion. He does not confuse you with too many options. He knows to give you the best. So do not give up until you receive the best from God. From the day I sat for my SPM until the day I got my results, my mother and I prayed every night for God to work miraculously in my results. And He has never forsaken us. And I always held this word close to my heart till today.

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11.

I then moved on to do my A Levels in Taylors College. I was doing very well in college and had good forecast grades. My teachers forecasted me to get straight A’s. But when the results came out, I got straight B’s. The UK universities I applied to rejected me because of my results. I wrote many letters of appeal and yet I was rejected. This was another trauma for my family because they were worried that I might not make it to the UK if no good universities accepted me. I was worried that I would lose my scholarship. In 48 hours, I e-mailed 172 universities in the UK asking them if they would accept me. I got many positive replies from many low ranked universities and very few positive replies from the highly ranked ones. I had to present my case in front of my scholarship board. They did not allow my parents to enter the board room. I still remember my mum was outside, on her knees, praying for a positive outcome. The scholarship department said they would get back to me with their decision. After a few hours, they rang my mother to tell me that my appeal was successful and they are sending me to the UK to study.

And then, there were visa delays too. But what God had written, no one could stop. So I landed in the UK and pursued my degree in Economics at the University of Surrey. In my 3 years here in the UK, everything worked in my favour. There were definitely many challenges along the way. Lots of new things to learn and adapt to but God placed great people along my way to help me and guide me. I was blessed with great friends, excellent lecturers, I was living in good campus accommodation, my university was in a lovely town, one of the safest places in England, and I had an amazing church life too. I was a Christian all my life, but it was in this 3 years that I learnt and I felt truly how beautiful it is to let the Lord walk beside you. My faith grew and deepened, and each day, all I knew was I was walking closer and closer and even closer to God. I was doing well in university. My grades were good. I was chosen to participate in many events representing the university, I was offered many part time jobs on campus, opportunities was just knocking that I did not have enough hands to catch. Economics is not an easy degree, it got tougher every year. But with God’s grace, many lecturers favoured me and they were fond of me that they always went the extra mile to help me. I just finished my final year. I graduated with a 1st class honours! Final year was hard!! I sometimes would just give up, but with great support from friends and family, I step up again and keep trying. Thank you all for praying for me. Many of our TMC pastors sent me encouraging messages, many friends were praying. Thank you so much. The best verse a pastor sent me the day before my final exam was

And now when I sit back and think of what a long way I have come, I know this was God’s purpose for me. To leave home, to come abroad, to study in this particular university where He has placed his people to surround me, so that I would expand my potential to its fullest and most of all, so that I would be able to know the Lord Jesus truly as my personal saviour. God had to take me away so that He could have my time and He needed the 3 years to mould me and teach me what life is. If God did not allow me to face all the challenges I had gone through to get to where I am, today I would not be able to share this testimony with you all. Whatever your position or status may be, just make known to Him the desires of your heart. And makesure to put effort into all your endeavours, because our God is a rewarder of efforts. With the blessings of your family and prayers of all your loved ones, you will make it far. God knew the desires of my heart and He recognised the faithful works of my parents. He has blessed our family so much. I got my results on my birthday and it was the best birthday present ever. My family came to the UK to celebrate my graduation with me on July 14. I will soon return to Malaysia to serve the government and fulfill the scholarship bond.

As students, we should always thrive for knowledge because the Lord says wisdom is more precious than rubies, and nothing you desire can compare with her.

Do not be disappointed when you are rejected, sometimes rejection may be part of God’s great plan for you. (I was even rejected by Oxford University at the final selection round.)

I shall let you all look up Joshua 1:1-9 which has always been 1 of my many favourite portions in the BIBLE.

‘HOSANNA’ – Hosanna will always be my favourite word in the BIBLE. I remember the days when there was no way out, I said, Hosanna! And God always rescued me. And I remember the days when I thanked God for answered prayers and I would say, “Hosanna the Highest”. Hosanna is a cry for help and a shout of praise. The days of crying are over, these are the days of praise I end this with HOSANNA!!!
